Website Buitenkunst The Hague launches first walking route

The Hague, 20 December 2021

Walking route Rondje Centrum online from 20 December

Get some fresh air during the holidays? And discover new things too? Come to the centre of The Hague and walk the Rondje Centrum: a walking route on the website Buitenkunst Den Haag (bkdh.nl) that takes you past some twenty works of art. You may already know some of the sculptures, but not others. You end up in unexpected places and along the way encounter figures of various plumage - many respectable gentlemen and one impressive lady, a gigantic, jet-black crow and hidden, cryptic signs. The art on the streets shows you the city from a different side.

Last summer, Stroom Den Haag launched, commissioned by the municipality, a website with extensive information about all the artworks on the street in the city. The starting signal was given by alderman Van Asten when the Centrum district with over 170 images went online. Since then, new information has been added every month, each time from a different district. By now, the outdoor works of art from all districts can be found on the site and the counter stands at over 525 sculptures. This number is still growing, partly thanks to the help of the public.

To bring the wealth of outdoor art in The Hague further to the attention of the public, Stroom will develop a series of walking and cycling routes in the coming years. Rondje Centrum is the first in this series: a walk of 1.5 hours that not only brings you in contact with beautiful artworks, but also with the Haagse Beek, unique buildings, overwhelming colour strips, people from The Hague and from The Hague.

The walk is free and available to everyone via the website bkdh.nl. Those who prefer to have a paper map can download a pdf with the walking route and information to print out for themselves. Like the website, the walk is also available in both Dutch and English. Future routes will open up the outdoor art in other parts of the city or by theme.
