The sculpture 'Cricket Player' by Jaroslawa Dankowa, which serves as an eye-catcher on the grounds of the Hague Cricket Club (HCC), radiates the dynamism and agility that the sportsman stands for. In the image of the cricketer, full action and utmost concentration are united. The batsman is ready to hit the ball with his bat and to put it out of reach of the fielding side, while at the same time trying to protect his wicket. He is totally absorbed in his sport and the perfect movement that goes with it.

Dankowa, who fled her home town of Sofia in 1948, became a sculptor on the advice of her sister Stiffany. She discovered an artistic talent, which Dankowa developed by taking lessons at the Free Academy in The Hague.

The Indisch Monument in The Hague is without doubt Dankowa's best-known monumental work. However much the situation of the victims of the Japanese occupation may differ from the role of the cricketer, the imagery in both cases is characteristic of Dankowa. The figures are not depicted in detail. The body shapes are usually stylized and somewhat elongated. Dynamics or drama can mainly be seen in the posture.
