Buitenkunst website richer by 80 works

Now also art in Escamp and Wateringse Veld online

From Thursday, 30 September, the works of art in the district of Escamp can also be found on the website Buitenkunst The Hague (bkdh.nl) website. Including those of the Wateringse Veld residential area. This expands the website that was launched at the beginning of this summer by Robert van Asten and Alexandra Landré. Landré the new artistic director of Stroom Den Haag, is expanding all the time. About 80 descriptions are added to the more than 370 works that the database already contains. With the new website, all background information about the artworks on the street in The Hague is freely accessible 24/7. Just like the sculptures themselves.

Remarkable art is district of Escamp

Escamp is by far the district with the most impressive sculptures and reliefs from the post-war reconstruction period. Just look at the mosaic by Jeroen Voskuyl above the entrance to the former school on Zuidlarenstraat. And - of course - the Zuiderpark too is full of beautiful sculptures. One of the most striking sculptures is undoubtedly Horse and Rider, a sculpture by the world-famous Italian sculptor Marino Marini. Instead of a mighty man on a horse, the work of art depicts an ordinary person trying to stay in the saddle of life.

There is also an equestrian statue in the Vinex district of Wateringse Veld. This contemporary version is by Q.S. Serafijn. The title John Wayne refers, among other things, to the hero of the novel for and about the neighbourhood that this artist wrote himself. In this way, he created a shared history for the residents. There are also a number of colourful ceramic sculptures in Wateringse Veld that recall horticulture in this former greenhouse area. One of them is De Boomgaard by Dora Dolz.

Backgrounds to The Hague Outdoor Art

Commissioned by the municipality, Stroom Den Haag developed a website with information about all artworks that are visible from the public road. This way everyone can look up who the sculpture is by, when and from what material it was made and what it means. The site also shows whether there are any other sculptures by the same artist in the city. An English version is available especially for foreign tourists and expats. By the end of 2021 all current information with photos and background stories of the more than 550 outdoor artworks in The Hague are expected to be online.
