Lex Schoenmaker, one of ADO Den Haag’s greatest club icons, has been given a permanent place in the city where his soccer career began. A bronze statue of the former player was unveiled next to the stadium in September by Lex Schoenmaker himself, along with Mayor Jan van Zanen and co-initiator Ed Slier.
The statue, created by Loek Bos, was inspired by passionate fans. It stands next to the statue of club legend Aad Mansveld, a close friend and teammate of Schoenmaker. The two players are looking at each other, a nod to their years together on the field. In this way, The Hague’s Heldenplein tells not only the story of two extraordinary soccer players, but also one of friendship, remembrance, and the rich history of ADO Den Haag—a history that remains so visible to fans and visitors alike.
