Unveiling monument historic moment for The Hague

Last Monday - June 30 - the Monument transatlantic slavery past was unveiled on Lange Voorhout, during the third official Hague slavery commemoration. Mayor Van Zanen, Alderman Vavier and Lilian Callender of the June 30-July 1 The Hague Committee were present. The monument is a powerful symbol embraced by descendants and residents of the city.

The work Remember Our United Beginning by artist Buhlebezwe Siwani was festively welcomed - carried by words of strength, unity and connection. During the development of the work, the artist engaged with a sounding board group of descendants, residents and stakeholders.
With this monument, The Hague will have a lasting place to remember and honor the enslaved of transatlantic slavery.
