Artwork Description
Text
On the embankment of the A12, a small figure stands in a keyhole. It is a child wearing cap boots and holding a castle turret. Instead of a head, it has the head of a lamb. By using glow-in-the-dark paint, the figure gives a little light on the dark embankment at night.
While the front of this keyhole shows a lovely figure as if from a pleasant dream, the back shows a head from a nightmare. On the slope behind the sculpture, you can see a kind of shadow spot. Depending on the angle at which you look at it, it looks like a castle. Or is it more like a vampire? In any case, its shape does not match either the figure or the keyhole.
The fairytale-like keyhole figure is one of seven sculptures created by artist duo LaSalle for the De Dijken district of Leidschenveen. In this sculpture, the duo has fused elements of shadow play, fairy tales and dreams.
