Artwork Description

Text

Leaning, lying, hanging or sitting. Everything is possible on the tiled square and the adjacent lawn between the flats on Tivolistraat, where Peter van Loon's ceramic objects contribute to a pleasant stay. They provoke action. The loose sculptural elements vary from leaning and floor statues to sitting and climbing statues. Sometimes they take the form of a bench, sometimes they lean against or on each other. In addition, stand-alone poles in various sizes and dimensions are found. A few headstrong specimens have even dared to climb up the facade of one of the blocks of flats. In short: this ceramic sculpture group can do anything. In any case, the individual elements themselves mark the street and the neighbourhood where they have been placed.

Movement, sound and interaction with the public are constants in Van Loon's work. Like his music machines, the ceramic objects on Tivolistraat are only finished when the viewer does something with them. His predilection for sound and movement is reminiscent of the kinetic art of the world-famous French sculptor Jean Tinguely (1925-1991). Van Loon's need for audience participation goes hand in hand with his predilection. The main aim is to stimulate and excite the public in a positive way through visual interventions or sound impulses.
