Artwork Description

Text

A special piece of soap. That was the starting point for this series of images in the water. Artist duo LaSalle had received a bar of Acqua di Parma for a birthday. They were enchanted by the heavenly yellow of the tissue paper with which it was wrapped. It immediately reminded them of Imperial Yellow. In China, this colour had long been reserved for the emperor. After all, he was descended from the sun. Ordinary mortals were punished by death if they dared to wear this colour yellow.
Under the hands of the artists, the intense yellow has taken on a life of its own. What form does such an imperial colour take? From milk cartons, potatoes, stones and bathing caps, they composed both natural, organic and more rectangular, mathematical forms. In each of the four sculptures, these opposites merge in a different way. The final sculptures look as if a snake has swallowed all kinds of prey.
