Artwork Description

Text

Between the houses and cars on Reijerskopstraat, a striking structure rises from the central reservation. It turns out to be a large concrete plinth with three steps. On top of the plinth, three melancholy poodles lie in a soothing, Japanese Zen garden. The dogs, which have the same sand colour as their surroundings, are cheered up by four colourful clowns who shoot out of the side of the plinth like little devils. Circles, balloon shapes and footsteps are printed around the plinth and in the immediate vicinity.

This large sculpture is one of seven that LaSalle made for the De Dijken residential area. Although everyone recognises the figures in this sculpture, it is not something you see every day. It is a scene that came to the artists' minds: four dressed-up people with three poodles watching. They have transformed this vision into a sculpture that is as cheerful as it is enigmatic.
